December 2011 - Construction Update
The wind turbines continue to go up at Kelburn Wind Farm, although erection is quite slow due the high winds we are currently experiencing! We hope to have the final turbine up before Christmas. All turbine deliveries along the public road are now complete and the railings on the Sharon Street/Roche Way in Dalry will be replaced over the next week. We would like to thank the local residents along the delivery route for their patience during the delivery period. Despite the weather delays we are still on track to finish by spring 2012.

June 2011 - Construction Update
We reached a project milestone this month with the completion of the final turbine foundation. All of the foundations have now been backfilled and landscaped ready for the wind turbines to be installed. The civil works on site are nearly finished, the only remaining task is to install the final stone running surface on the site tracks. The electrical works are well underway with approximately half of the infrastructure now in place. We are continuing work on the control room and substation compound. This month has also seen the reseeding of the lower section of the construction site with local seed mix. The areas which were reseeded earlier this year are seeing good coverage and growth. We will shortly be sending out a newsletter to local residents with details of the turbine deliveries.

7 June 2011 - Wind Turbine Dry Run
On Wednesday 8 June, RES will be undertaking a wind turbine dry run for Kelburn Wind Farm. This is in preparation for the delivery of wind turbines to the site in July 2011.
A specialist haulage contractor, McFadyens Transport, will drive the route using a specially modified articulated vehicle. The overall length of the vehicle will be approximately 45m to imitate a 40m long wind turbine blade. A police escort will come before and after the abnormal load to warn other road users, and direct traffic (where necessary) to enable the vehicle to safely negotiate the route. The dry run will be filmed from a following vehicle.
The vehicle will leave Ayr docks at 5.00am; it will travel along the A79 Allison Street and turn onto the A719 Whitletts Road. The vehicle will join the A77 and continue onto the A78. At the Chapelhill roundabout the vehicle will travel along the B780 to Dalry. Once through Dalry the vehicle will head north on the B784 to join the A760 and travel west to the site entrance.
It is expected to arrive at the site at approximately 7.00am. It is not our intention to cause any traffic hold-ups, we will do our best to minimise this by taking advice from the police, and where possible making sure that vehicles travelling in both directions are given the opportunity to pass safely along the way. Please feel free to contact Rachel Anderson if you have any questions or would like further information.
May 2011 - Construction Update
Despite the recent wet weather, construction at Kelburn continues! The 9.6km site track is now complete and we will shortly be pouring the last of the turbine foundations. Work is progressing well on the control room and substation structures. The cabling work on the interconnector route to the Scottish Power connection point and the work Scottish Power undertaking on the fibre optic cable link are both nearly finished. We are now gearing up to the delivery of the wind turbines, which will take place later in the summer - more details to follow soon!

RES is pleased to be supporting the Largs Agricultural Show again this year. The show takes place on Saturday 11 June at Ardgowan Policies, Inverkip.
April 2011 - Construction Update
The main wind farm substation has reached ground floor slab level and nine of the fourteen foundations have been concreted. The majority of these have now been backfilled with topsoil and are approaching completion. The site track works have progressed quickly with the good weather this month with 8.5km of 9.6km now complete. The top and subsoil continues to be stripped and stored to one side with the vegetation replaced on top to encourage rapid re-vegetation (as pictured). In addition, reseeding with a locally harvested seed mix in all areas disturbed by the construction process is to commence imminently to take full advantage of the good germination and growing conditions. Minor junction improvement works are taking place in Dalry in order to facilitate the delivery of the wind turbines during summer 2011.

March 2011 - Construction Update
With the fair weather seen throughout the last month here at Kelburn Wind Farm, progress across the site has been good. A further four reinforced concrete turbine bases have been installed taking us past the half way mark, and an additional kilometre of site track has been constructed as the work front moves south towards Langside Hill. The completed turbine foundations are being back filled and landscaped. As we move in to the Spring growing season a locally harvested seed mix is to be sown to accelerate the regeneration of all disturbed areas, and works on the habitat enhancement plan will commence shortly. Works by Scottish Power on the Fairlie to Saltcoats fibre optic cable link continue to progress.

February 2011 - Construction Update
Works continue to progress steadily at Kelburn Wind Farm; the main track has progressed round to the far side of Sheep Hill with over 7.5km of track installed in total. Four of the reinforced concrete wind turbine foundations have been installed and construction activities on the main substation control room have commenced. The Scottish Power works on the fibre optic cable are well advanced with limited disruption between the Fairlie Primary Substation and the Saltcoats Primary Substation. The wind farm remains on target to be complete by early 2012, with the coming month seeing further progress on site tracks, the installation of additional turbine foundations and work on the control room.

January 2011 - Construction Update
After a break for the festive period work continues at Kelburn Wind Farm. Over 7km of access tracks have been completed and work has started on the turbine bases. Scottish Power are currently upgrading their communication system and installing a fibre optic cable between Saltcoats Primary Substation and Fairlie Primary Substation. The installation of the fibre optic cable will take place in sections to minimise the disruption to traffic on the A78, Fairlie to Saltcoats coast road and on the A738, into Salcoats. It is expected that the works will be finished by the end of February.
